How to Highlight Calendar Events Based on a Field Value

I’ve built a custom application that includes a set of daily events, which I display in a calendar report. I want to highlight these events based on specific fields within each event, but I’m not sure how to set this up.
The Forward Schedule of Change (FSC) calendar seems to have this functionality. It has a section above the calendar with three radio buttons, letting the user choose between 'Escalation', 'Priority', or 'Approval'. The calendar entries are then highlighted according to the selected field’s value, using colors defined in the Color Charts module under Reports.
I’ve already set up color values for the fields in the events I want to highlight, but I don’t see the “Highlight based on…” option at the top of my calendar report. This means I can’t choose which fields to use for the highlighting.
Can anyone explain how to enable or use this highlighting feature for calendars? Is it possible to replicate the “Highlight based on” functionality from the FSC report?
