Looking for advice/recommendations on where to start the Service Mapping for SAP 4 HANA

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking at doing some Service Mapping for SAP 4 Hana.

As I don't have much experience with mapping SAP apps, it would be great if anyone who has already been working on similar maps could share a few pointers like:

  • What is recommended to capture as Application Service for Sap4Hana? Just Sap4Hana as one App Service, or split it into some modules/smaller apps?
  • What is the entry point type/details we can use for such service maps? Would it be a URL, maybe TCP details, or some web-service type entry point?
  • Are OOTB patterns of any help here or will this rely mostly on custom pattern development?

Many thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi tom,

I have worked on Service Mapping SAP applications in the past.

  • What is recommended to capture as Application Service for Sap4Hana? Just Sap4Hana as one App Service, or split it into some modules/smaller apps?

Response: We have split SAP4Hana applications into various smaller modules. Like SAP financing, supply chain etc instead mapping SAP4HANA as a whole.

  • What is the entry point type/details we can use for such service maps? Would it be a URL, maybe TCP details, or some web-service type entry point?

Response: When it comes to entry point it depends on how the client has consumption to these applications. In our case, Majority of the applications had mix of both URL's and TCP endpoints.

  • Are OOTB patterns of any help here or will this rely mostly on custom pattern development?

Yes, there are 18 OOTB patterns related to SAP. In our case, we had to create serveral extension steps to the existing ootb pattern.

SAP CI Application

SAP DI Application

SAP HANA Database

SAP SCS Applications are most used patterns

Thank you so much, this is helpful. Would it be possible for you to provide some example URL (maybe obscuring any sensitive parts) or what TCP entry point details beyond host/port (if needed) you have been using? Have you had any load balancers as part of those maps?

Hi Tom,

Below is the ServiceNow document data gathering document for information related to entry points. I found this document from community as well. Yes, we did have loadbalancers at the time of service mapping SAP Applications.

Hi,

I am new to ServiceNow and my ServiceNow team do not have knowledge on SAP setup. I am tasked to map our SAP S/4 HANA application using Device Management, Service Management, FI, etc. in Utility Industry. Can you please share the URL and examples for a 4 tier SAP environment (For Production Support work: Dev, QA, preprod and production)? In your response you are talking about 18 OOTBs for SAP. Can you please the link to those OOTBs?

How do we handle when we have a parallel landscape for project work consisting of Dev, QA, Preproduction?

Also, We have BW environments similar to S/4 HANA.
