Service mapping - Tag based approach vs Top down discovery approach

Hello, 

We are starting the service mapping stream and we are questionning our serlf what's the most appropriate approach 
The goal is to improve our operations : incident, change, ...

Our assumption is to go with the tag based approach especiallay for our applications hosted on cloud, this will bring us a lot of benefit but require however a good tagging strategy

What's you option on the tag based approach ?

Depends how good your cloud team is on making sure the appropriate tags are present.  A client of mine has 9 mandatory tags giving application name, environment role, owner, support team and some others. If this is good and you can trust it, then basing tag based service maps on this is a good option.

Also it's pretty easy to deploy and configure Tag Governance where you can validate that the necessary tags are being applied and raise tasks for remediation for those that don't meet the standards.

Hi Chris,

Have you explored Tag Governance capability of ServiceNow to have some governance in place to ensure the quality of tagging being done and tag values received in ServiceNow via discovery?
