Hi @aishwaryase ,

Yes, you can discover an application running on a VM using ServiceNow Discovery.

Before starting the discovery process, ensure:

  • Network Connectivity: The VM is accessible over the network.
  • MID Server Setup: A ServiceNow MID Server is installed and properly configured to communicate with the VM.
  • Credentials: Valid credentials (WMI for Windows, SSH for Linux) are available for the discovery process.
  • Discovery Licensing: Ensure you have the required ServiceNow Discovery licensing.

Please find the below post for setting up the discoverry:

Identify the Application Running on the VM
  • Once the VM is discovered, check under Configuration Items (CI) in the CMDB.
  • Use Process Classifier to identify the running processes and services.
  • If it's a web application, use port scanning to detect listening services.
  • Utilize Application Fingerprinting if applicable.
Map Dependencies (Optional, for Service Mapping)
  • If you need to map dependencies, use Service Mapping in ServiceNow.
  • This helps in identifying relationships between the application, VM, and underlying infrastructure.
