Windows Server with Empty IP Address

Hi Team,

In our Risk Metrics Dashboard, there is a Windows server with a blank IP address. I tried running the discovery for it, but the discovery was unable to find the correct address, and the Discovery Location field also remains empty.

Workaround Steps Taken:

1. Checked the IP address table for the CI's name, but no IP address is listed.
2. Verified the first discovery date and the most recent discovery date; both are the same.
3. Checked the CMDB Health Dashboard, but the CI is not listed as a duplicate.
4. Searched the overall ECC_Queue, but found no relevant entries.

I am curious about the possible reasons for this issue. As I am new to discovery, could anyone please help me understand and resolve this problem?

Hi Kavin,

I would start with the history of the CI to determine where it came from, then try the IP Address and DNS records within the CMDB. I doubt that it would have been added by Discovery without an IP address as this field is one of the default identifier fields, so most likely the IP address was deleted after Discovery or it was manually added/imported from a spreadsheet.

If you can't find the IP information in the history & you have access to the network the device is on you could always try using NSLOOKUP to see if there is a DNS entry matching the name that doesn't already exist?

Hi @James Hammond ,
Thanks for your response. I'll have a check and let you know the result.

Thanks,

Kavin.
