I was once a spelling bee champion and I still consider myself excellent when it comes to spelling, but I have just been blown away by this article:
https://writingexplained.org/canceled-or-cancelled-difference
What does this have to do with ServiceNow? I think there are quite a few of you out there who, like me, thought ServiceNow had simply misspelled the state of the incident, or wait was it service catalog? Some of us even went so far as to rename the state display value.
The point of this article is to issue a warning to developers, especially those doing a lot of integrations, don't change the display value for any reason. If you feel you must, first do a global search on 'Canceled' and see how many BR's, SI's and client scripts refer to the display value of 'Canceled'.
Best,
Chris

Good article. I wish the developers had picked a version of Canceled or Cancelled and stuck with it throughout the platform.
I've found conflicting notifications, canceled/cancelled, and more conflicting states/stages labeled in the system.
It just doesnt look good. 😞

You're in good company.
We're also confronted with this issue - and I deem it an issue because it's inconsistency on a high and very visible level. Reported by our client.
After a brief research I found that the dictionary holds both states for different applications, i.e. cancelled and canceled. Oh wow... Even out of the box in my Madrid developer instance it's this way.
Probably because I'm British I say only cancelled looks correct.

If it is any consolation... It was like this in Remedy way back in 1998. Spelled both ways, and also

I'm a Brit living/working in the US, so I always double check the target label/value to insure I'm using the "correct" one for the instance
