Change Management - Assess State approval - Remove manager approval from group approval records

We are using Change Policy Definitions and the model states for our Change Management. for the Assess approval, we have it defined to get approval from one person on the group approval for the assignment group.

If the manager is a member of the group, we would like an approval not to route to the manager.

It doesn't appear to be a way to exclude them in the approval policy or flow.  What is the best method for this?  Would I exclude the manager via a business rule for changes only in that state?  

We cannot remove the manager from the group. Also, that manager may need approvals elsewhere like for Service Catalog.

Hi,

Easiest way to solve this is a before insert business rule on sysapproval_approver. 

In the BR, check if the approval user is the same as the group manager and abort the insert
