Is bulk Update Selected supported for Published Knowledge Articles OOB?

Hi everyone,

I am working on a requirement to move/update Knowledge Articles in bulk from the Knowledge Article list.

The expected scenario is:

  1. Select one or multiple Knowledge Articles from the list.
  2. Click Update Selected.
  3. Change the Knowledge Base field, for example from End User Support to IT&S Knowledge.
  4. Click Update.

However, I noticed different behavior depending on the article state.

  • For a Draft/new Knowledge Article, the bulk update works successfully.
  • For an already Published Knowledge Article, the bulk update fails with a security constraint.
  • When trying to edit the Published article individually, the fields are read-only, which appears to be OOB behavior for published articles.
  • The debug output shows the following ACL evaluation failing:
  • record/kb_template_how_to/write
    RC = false

    record/kb_knowledge/write
    RC = false

My question is:

Is bulk updating/moving Published Knowledge Articles through "Update Selected" supported OOB in ServiceNow?

If Published Articles are intentionally read-only OOB, should the expected behavior be that Update Selected also cannot modify them, or is there an OOB mechanism/ACL specifically intended to allow bulk updates of Published Articles without making them editable individually?

Thank you!
