Hello,
First of all, let me say that I'm new to ServiceNow, so apologies in advance for the newbie questions.
We are on Fuji version. I'm planning to change out of the box fields' type in Change application's form from String to HTML.
Generally speaking, is it a bad idea to change it or will not cause any harm at all(i.e: when upgrading ServiceNow, etc.)?
What's the best practise?
Also, as mentioned above I'm planning to use HTML type in Change:
- creating templates that uses, fills the HTML fields
- configuring out email notifications that contains HTML fields
What's your experience? Have you run into any issues in the scenarios above? Is there anything I should be aware of?
Any feedback is appreciated!
Thank you,
szollo

Hello Gergely, The email notifications are HTML OOB, so no need to change those. But the template question around the Change module. Are you looking to incorporate HTML fields into comments? So that when your template is applied to the comments field the HTML will show?
Can you provide a little more background on this so I can understand the scope of what you're trying to accomplish? I've not used the HTML fields much, but I have heard there's an issue with in-line images in HTML fields in Fuji. I have NOT confirmed that yet though as I haven't had time to work on that issue at the client I am working with.

Hi William,
Thank you for your comment!
We are not experiencing any issues at the moment, but we would like to know if others had run into any issues with the way we want to go forward. Let me clarify what we want to achieve:
Ideally our change form contains HTML type fields. If a new change request is raised, then we would apply templates(System Definition -> Templates (change_request table) ) to it based on the nature of the request, so most of the fields would be populated including the HTML fields.
One of our concern is that we are unsure whether this is reliable, so when we apply a template(that has tables, bullet points, ordered list, bold text etc.) will it cause any problem(like HTML code is misinterpreted, wrongly applied, etc)? We did some initial testing and haven't found anything so far, but are interested if others had run into any issue for a similar scenario?
We are also a bit worried about the following: when a change request is approved, then we would send out an email that contains fields from the change request form including the HTML ones(that contains tables, bullet points, ...etc. - similarly as above). Did you experience any issues displaying HTML contents in emails?
I hope this clarified it a bit more, but let me know if not, so I can send some screenshots and be more specific.
Thank you,
Gergo

Apologies for chasing this up, but your feedback would be greatly appreciated in this topic.
Do you have any experience with HTML fields as described above? If yes, please do share it
