onchange of caller auto populating location. But manually if i removed auto populated value error

onchange of caller field, auto populating location field with callers location ,even after auto populate location when i try to remove and manuaaly type the same location value it is showing error right below the field "Invalid reference" and the location not showing when manually try to pickup from that location field. What could be the reason?

Which table you are reference? And also can you show script which you have written to auto populate?

That is the existing functionality

this is already existing functionality where onchange of caller location field population. But here the problem is even after auto populate the location field on incident when user tries to update another location or same location manually it is throwing error which is right below the location field. 

error: "invalid reference"

2nd error: "match not found reset to original"

I have tried on my PDI to change the location on incident table , I didnt see any error. you can check if there are any onchange scripts written on that table.
