Outbound REST Message socket timeout on external HTTPS web endpoint

Hello ServiceNow Community,

We are configuring an outbound REST Message inside ServiceNow Integration Hub to send JSON payloads to an external intake endpoint (hdclaims.co.uk).

Issue Description:

When executing the outbound HTTP POST request via a MID Server script inclusion, the transaction times out after 10000ms with a java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out error. Executing the same payload directly from Postman completes in under 350ms.

Environment Setup:

• Instance Version: Washington DC / Xanadu Release

• Authentication: OAuth 2-0 / Bearer Token

• Target Domain: (hdclaims.co.uk)

Steps Taken:

1. Verified that the ECC Queue displays status error during payload transmission.

2. Imported the target server root CA certificate into the ServiceNow System Definition Certificate store.

3. Disabled TLS 1-3 session ticket resumption on the server proxy, but the MID Server socket read timeout persists.

Is there a specific system property (glide.http.timeout_retry) or socket connection pool limit in ServiceNow that needs adjustment for custom .co.uk web application endpoints?

Any technical guidance would be greatly appreciated!

In my last client project, we encountered timeout issues when sending a large data load (approximately 10K records) to a third-party tool(Azure).

To resolve this, we divided the payload into smaller batches (2K) and processed them separately. After implementing this approach, the integration worked smoothly without any timeout issues.

You can also consider using a combination of Flow and Scheduled Jobs to process the data in batches and avoid similar timeout issues.
