Hi community members,
In the Hardware Models we are able to configure compatible and/or substitution models for a model.
Compatible models are models with 1 to 1 functionality as the model and substitution models are models with same or better functionality.
When fulfilling a REQ for a hardware item, within Procurement - Request - Catalog Task a ' Source Request' can be done to find the available requested hardware item. Some questions:
Is it possible to configure the stockrooms involved in the sourcing? We sometimes do not want to source on every stockroom.
Is it possible to configure a way that the sourcing is not only done based on the requested model but also on the compatible and substitution model(s)? In this way it's much easier to take decisions on how to fulfill the request.
Curious about your reactions,
Warm regards,
Ed

Hi Ed,
We cannot use substitute model while sourcing. But substitute model can be used in transfer orders.
This can be used in below example:
Say, we have a Model A which we want to gradually retire.
We have new model B. Model B is substitute of Model A.
We only open catalog item for Model A to end user.
After user request Model A, in source request we create a transfer order.
Now in Transfer Oder, we can change the model to Model B if required since it is a substitute.
Once all Model A is over from stockroom, we can publish Model B to end user.
Details on docs:
https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/paris-it-asset-management/page/product/product-catalog/task/t_AddingSubModelsToHrdwModel.html
It state:
When you select substitute models, note the following conditions.
- Substitute models can be used with work management transfer orders. Substitute models are not used in procurement part sourcing.
- Hardware models included in bundled models cannot be added as substitutes.
Hope this is helpful.

Hi,
Thanks for your reaction.
In the meantime we created our own solution to be able to use the compatible and/or substitute models in our fulfillment process.
I hope that in the near future both models will be used in OOB capabilities like Ordering at a Vendor, Fulfill a Request with an other but equal or better model etc.
Cheers,
Ed

Hello @Ed Laar1 Could you please share the approach you took to use substitute model during sourcing task?
