I wouldn't recommend reverting once its cancelled, that could be a process nightmare (for cancelled typically means inactive, etc.. and could just open a box of worms with people cancelling, restarting, cancelling, etc).
Perhaps this is a opportunity to use the "copy change" functionality (which I believe is OOB functionality) so they can start fresh instead.
