Are the DNS Name Ci automatically Linked/Mapped to the Server or Device CI during Discovery and record creation

Good morning:

Currently, the ServiceNow discovery is running within a windows environment. I noticed that the DNS Name Ci are mapped or linked to the server or device CI of the same name. Discovery is running taking place every night with the updates being recorded. 

Questions:

1) Is this normal with an out of the box deployment 

2) Has anyone come across this before and how is the best way to establish a relationship between the CI's in question
