Is anyone using Citizen Developers in Minnesota?

I am wondering if anyone is having success with Citizen Developers and what kinds of controls/reviews you have in place.  I like the concept--does it work?

Yes it does work. I have implemented in two companies where I have worked one of them had implemented it before I joined them. It works for No-Code and Low-Code very well.

Then depending upon the maturity of the group they can grow into a Pro-Code. The key is to

1) Have good guardrails and review before deployment to production

2) Have a good support systems to help them get started i.e. have a formal onboarding and regular touchpoint.

Once you get going you will find that they will be your best champions of your platform

Can you share what you put in place for guard rails?

I am doing citizen development while I work towards becoming a developer. I am an admin/product owner for our finance department, and it is helpful that I can do basic record producer edits, list updates, ...etc on my own. I meet up with our main developer to review my changes and he submits the change request for the sprint. It is a good way for me to get experience developing, and we save time and money because I am in the department I am doing the work for so I understand the BPs and can act as a project manager and developer = reduced errors.

This may be something you want to consider as you think about who you already have, and may be capable to take on a new challenge. The nice thing about being in a non IT department and doing citizen development is that I can understand both sides of the coin when working through functionality and maintenance.
