Q. For those of use who can't go to Knowledge, will the sessions be recorded and availabe later in May like they were prior to Covid?
A. We’re recording fewer sessions this year, but all of the lab guides will be available after the event.
Q. With the HR Workspace plugin deprecating soon we're anxious to begin prototyping a new configurable workspace for our teams. Do you have any best practices or recommendations for this process?
A. THe best place to start is with that specific workspace’s documentation. I believe the HR config workspace has a guided setup you can walk through.
Q. Speaking of, will we be able to migrate Workspace lists to Configurable Workspace?
A. There is not an auto-migration for lists, but the new workspace will have many lists oob. I would take a look at that and add new lists accordingly.
Q. Is there a list of Known errors for the Next UI, that could be referenced to avoid any surprises?
A. The docs page for the next experience ui lists all of the features that aren’t compatible with the new UI so I would start there. In terms of known errors, I’m not aware of any at the moment, but I don’t believe those are listed in the docs typically.
Q. We noticed our business rules that show/hide services to agents is not working in configurable workspace. Is this an expected behavior?
A. I’m not aware of any specific issues related to this. You might need a support case, but generally business rules, client scripts, and ui policies should also work in workspaces if you’re using best practices and using support APIs.
Q. Maybe a bot off topic, but hope you can point me in the right direction, Brad. Just upgraded to Wash DC, and my configured workspaces isn't selectable, even for sys admin. No changes made to the Audience of the various workspaces.
A. I don’t think we made changes here, so I would open support case for this.
Q. Is there any consideration to bring back the iconized (versus pinned) left navigation menu?
A. I don’t believe we have any roadmap items for this at the moment. I would open an idea for this if there isn’t already one opened.
Q. Does Theme Builder support variants in Washington DC?
A. In Vancouver we renamed variants. Variants are really applicable to accessibility. In Washington alternate color palettes through theme builder are supported.
Q. Any update to collapse the All menu with a simple click. 🙂
A. In Washington we added support for keyboard shortcuts, and I think there is one for the all menu.
Q. Can the images (i.e., spaceman) be replaced?
A. This is something the theme builder team is looking into and is on the roadmap. Check out docs for the Xanadu release and find the UX Style Imagery docs.
Q. Will list reports support pagination to show more records?
A. I believe list reports should support pagination, but that’s something we can confirm when we post the session and links after the session.
Q. Does the Next UI provide a means to provide Modals for users with certain roles, maybe conditionally based on views of specific KB articles?
A. I’m not sure I understand this question. From this perspective I don’t think there’s anything extra the new UI provides in terms of modals.
Q. One silly question, we recently switched to Next Exp UI from core UI and there are some users who are saying they aren't able to see all notifications under 'show notification' in new UI (bell icon). Is this something configurable who can see what kind of notifications there ?
A. I would open a support case on this one. There is some configuration available for notifications.
Q. will we eventually be able to use theme builder against employee center or service portal? i realize they are different tech stacks, so is that something that might never happen?
A. This is something we’re exploring internally, but theme builder does not currently support angular service portals.
Q. Brad you mention lab guides will be available after Knowledge, where will we be able to get them from. i am going to knowledge but a couple of sessions I need are not available.
A. Specifically for the agent experiences team, check out sn.works/NEWorkshops for our Knowledge 2024 labs.
Q. On the in product notifications, can the user choose not to receive some or all of them?
A. We’ll try to post and answer to this later this week.
Q. Is there an option to 'surface' these notifications on EC Pro home page?
A. I’m not sure about this, but I don’t think there is an option for this.
Q. I find the layout of workspaces quite big and bulky, is there a way to reduce the text/image/field sizes across the board so more information is shown but looking a little less cluttered?
A. We’ve done some work on the record page over the last few releases. The form fields part of the record pages does change based on your browser width to optimize the space on the form. Record pages also support reflow for browser zooming as an accessibility feature.
Q. Randomly, we have users complaining that the next experience menu items don't load. We cannot capture and submit a Hi ticket as the issue is uncertain. Are there any tips to perform if the menu items are not loading?
A. This has to do with the way the menus load.
Q. We originally set up different themes that can be chosen in the user's preferences. Is Theme Builder only for the theme everyone sees or can it be used to create themes for people to select?
A. Users can select between different alternate color pallettes.
Q. SN Offers the possibility to clone/duplicate Page Variants within UI Builder i.e Record Page SNC. If you do so, reference fields modal does not even open for any of the forms i.r INC, SC_Task etc. Is this the default behaviour?
A. I think this is fixed with the new standard record page template. There is a new SRP record page variant in SOW as of the november store release.
Q. Is there a plan for creating a delivered theme for accessibility like Color blindness?
A. Great question! Accessibility is a major priority for us and we do have additional themes on the roadmap.
Q. Does Theme builder comes with Next UI only? or with class UI too?
A. It only themes the Next Experience UI.
Q. is there a plan to have more ootb themes to choose from ?
A. This is on the roadmap, but there are also some additional theme packs on share that are community generated.
Q. is there a plan to have more ootb themes to choose from ?
A. https://developer.servicenow.com/connect.do#!/share/contents/6592535_ui22_themes1?t=PRODUCT_DETAILS
Q. Is Theme builder available for all users or ONLY for fulfillers?
A. Theme builder is available for administrators to build new themes and color pallettes.
Q. individual users can pick their own themes, right? or can it only be set universally for next ui?
A. Only one theme at a time in an instance is supported, but users can choose between variants and color pallettes depending on your release.
Q. can we see what is on your road map linked to future releases. This will probably come with safe harbour messages but would be good to know where you plan to go to fit our time line in with it rather than us playing catch up.
A. We will be giving roadmap sessions at Knowledge, but we don’t post those publicly. You can reach out to your account to setup a roadmap session if you have that need.
Q. Will there be a way to customize the sort of the themes on the profile -> preferences -> theme selection?
A. Theme builder can build alternate color pallettes in Washington which are selectable there.
Q. Configurable workspace start from which ServiceNow release?
A. The first was released in the Quebec release, but it depends on which workspace you’re looking at.
Q. Is there a place to see all of the Workspaces that ServiceNow has created out of box?
A. There isn’t a consolidated list at this point. The best thing to do is check the documentation for the specific application for which you’re looking for a configurable workspace.
Q. Do you create a configurable workspace for your Business Relationship Manager's or is there a OOB workspace that is built already for their needs?
A. I would check the docs for this. We’re shipping enough workspaces where I don’t know the specifics of each.
Q. To clarify: Would we configure/customize the OOB workspace? Or is the recommendation to copy it then configure/customize?
A. We strongly recommend you implement and configure existing workspaces. There is no clone feature for an entire workspace.
Q. Regarding Service Ops Wkspc; why is the component for Catalog Taks not supporting cards, only list view? THe other components are showing your tasks as cards.....seems inconsistent
A. I’m not familair with this specific functionality, but we can look into this and post something after the session.
Q. what would be difference between UI builder & AES for designing workspace ?
A. UI Builder allows you to build and edit workspace pages. AES is a low-code builder that can open up UI Builder and create net new workspaces for your custom applications.
Q. In the UK SNUG last week I heard that the mechanism to configure workspace landing pages is made easier in the Washington release. Do you have a link to some documentation which explains what that new method is?
A. You can use the Platform Analytics Experience in Washington to create dashboards and then show those dashboards in your workspace. Configuring landing pages themselves has not changed.
Q. Sorry for the specificity of this question.... we built a dashboard in UI Builder with a landing page but users are getting 403 errors. Are there ACLs that need to be added for the page?
A. You might need to open a support case for this.
Q. Ok that's cool, thanks Brad. I still have stuck in my head "don't touch OOB stuff", even though you've labelled the thing as "configurable" lol
A. Yep, we want you to configure these workspaces. Generally, if you want to change the way a page works or add something to it, you’ll duplicate it into a new variant that will show instead of the ootb page.
Q. Thanks Brad, I was not able to find it, only the number of records displayed...
A. I think it depends on the type of list copmonent they’re using in platform analytics. They do have their own academy for analytics you might want to check out.
Q. I see there are new ""Dispay"" Preferences for each user. - Turn off Next Experience - many others... Which are most useful / new features?
" A. I believe the turn off next experience has to do with a system property you would have added. I would check the release notes for new preferences.
Q. Is the dark theme ADA compliant? If not, are there plans to make it ADA compliant?
A. Accessibility is a priority for us, but we’ll check this out specifically and post an answer.
Q. For the UI Builder Attachments component, is there a way to obtain the SYSID of an attachment the client clicks on to, say, update a client state variable?
A. If it’s not in the payload of whatever event you’re working with for that component, then it wouldn’t directly be available.
Q. ""UI Builder allows you to build and edit workspace pages. AES is a low-code builder that can open up UI Builder and create net new workspaces for your custom applications."" If both are for workspaces then when should one be opted for & when not ?
" A. AES will create a workspace and has some configuration capabilities. For anything outside of what AES does you’ll want to use UIB. Hope that helps.
Q. Will UI builder evolve to eventually be used for customizing the platform UI?
A. Long term we would like to replatform the entire user interface onto the new framework.
Great, session!
I always take me thinking about all these stuffs: "Next Experience UI Framework", "Core UI/Classic Environment vs. Workspaces", "Configurable Workspaces vs. Agent Workspaces", "UI Builder vs. Service Portal", etc...
These content was very clarify!
