Have you posted this recorded session? I am not finding it and want to share with my team.
Here is the youtube link, thank you for your patience! https://youtu.be/UbaWWaRoFz8
Q. Good day - can you advise what training I can do to upskill on Reporting in ServiceNow?
A. I would go to the Application Specialist learning path on NowLearning. The first several courses are free, through “Get Started with Reports” (https://nowlearning.servicenow.com/lxp/en/now-intelligence/performance-analytics-pa-application-spec...)
Q. Good day - can you advise what training I can do to upskill on Reporting in ServiceNow?
A. In addition, the academies link Gabby posted in the chat is one of the best resources you can find. If you have a question about how or why in reporting, there is probably an academy session on it. (https://sn.works/analytics/pae)
Q. roles for 'unified filter' vs. the old 'interactive filter' creation. how is the access controlled to create the equivalent to interactive filters via the in-line editor now (ie. a role?)
A. Overview of roles in the “new” dashboard environment: https://docs.servicenow.com/csh?version=latest&topicname=platform-analytics-roles
Q. can you switch from inline to technical at any point?
A. No - once you decide to create a technical dashboard, it will be a technical dashboard. Same with inline dashboard. You may be able to do some things within an inline dashboard, where you can sort of work your way around somethings, but if you want full customizing capabilities and you know it from the start, then your best bet is to start with a technical dashboard. It’s built using UI Builder.
Q. SOrry but I was distracted for a couple of minutes, but I just realized that Platform Analytics can now be accessed using the filter navigator compared to a Workspace in Vancouver. Does that mean we moved away from the workspace?
A. Yes, we have moved away from the workspace and are using the new experience through the filter navigator.
Q. You may go over this later, but, a lot of our creator of dashboards love to cram it full of tabs and reports. For example, at least 10 tabs with 10+ reports on each tab. Is there a recommendation to follow in Platform Analytics for the number of tabs/reports? Performance really suffers on these large dashboards.
A. There isn’t a “hard” limit as it really depends on the performance of the queries that display the reports. In general, we recommend a maximum of 6 visible visualizations at one time. We also had a great academu session on optimizing reports, which are usually what causes dashboards to load slow: https://www.servicenow.com/community/platform-analytics-events/platform-analytics-academy-november-3...
Q. Have you considered to introduce collapsible sections to the dashboard?
A. This is a great idea. I will pass this over to our Developers and try to get something like this on the roadmap. Thank you!
Q. A lot of organizations are creating large data lakes for AI use cases. Can ServiceNow ingest or tap into some of that external data and create data visualizations on it?
A. You can bring external data into ServiceNow and use it with Platform Analytics. Via API.etc..
Q. Can we add color to the canvas, in the background, or widget header?
A. Yes. That can be done in in-line or technical dashboards.
Q. Can then this Dashboard be somehow easily exposed to Service Portal and Employee Center? Or only available on Platform side?
A. They are only available through the platform. As individual widgets, they can be added to a portal widget, but the full dashboard cannot.
Q. Is it planned to add customs Metric Definition to be available to be shown OOTB for Platform analytics users without having to alter the ACLs for Metric Instance table to achieve it?
A. Great question. You should be able to run the Report View ACL app to see and address any issues: https://docs.servicenow.com/csh?version=latest&topicname=report-view-acl-dashboard
Q. Are all the features of PAE available in Washington DC to start using without migration to PAE? Is the migration tool still being developed and improved? If so, what is the benefit For migrating to PAE now versus waiting until Yokohama, when the migration tool is more mature?
A. Yes it is all available in Washington. The idea of migrating early is for you to do it as your pace to make sure you are comfortable doinf it.
Q. using the migrate tool- have a current dashboard with 'cascading filter' that did not migrate. will that eventually get included?
A. This is fixed in the August store release
Q. Can you migrate analytics content after the Washington upgrade is complete? Or does it have to be done during the upgrade?
A. the Washington release does not make you migrate. It is there for you to start, if you choose to.
Q. Will all the migration change with button click be captured in updateset?
"A. The migration is not automatically captured in an update set. We recommend this order: 1. Run the migration in sub-prod 2. Address any issues in an update set in the sub-prod 3. Run the migration in Prod 4. Apply the update set to prod
Q. The Info below mentioned that you can postpone until Yokohoma. I thought the forced migration will hapen in Zurich?
A. It is Zurich
Q. Can the "Try" migration be rerun for the same dashboard multiple times? For example, if we want to make changes to the original dashboard and migrate it again.
A. Yes - there is an option to roll back a dashboard still in the “Bridging” table before being committed.
Q. In Platform Analytics, how can I export a list visualization to XLSX? I couldn't find a way to do this and I found this very handy with legacy reports. With legacy reports, regular users can dotwalk which they can't do on a regular list view.
A. Please ask this in the Community and tag me
Q. Is the migration tool a seperate store app that we must install in Washington DC?
A. A default upgrade should install the Migration Center app. But if you don’t see it for any reason, it is available to activate via the Store.
Q. Do you migrate dashboards in a sub prod first then again directly in Prod? Or are you making changes via an update set and moving up?
A. There are different ways to approach it. In most cases I would recommend capturing changes in an update set, but run the migration in Prod before applying the update set to prod.
Q. It looks like scrum burndown and burnup charts can't be migrated yet, is that right?
A. That is true. They should migrate in compatibility mode (iframe) for now. We will be adding chart types with each new family release. We’re working on a document for the Community that summarises all of that, along with projected (Safe Harbor!) timelines.
Q. Can you run multiple partial migrations on small subsets of dashbaords at a time, then activate and then move on to the next subset?
A. The Activation step is universal. If you want to move partial groups over, run the “Try” process on the selected dashboards. The migrated dashboards will be available to work with in Analytics Center > Dashboards. The Activation step also redirects all legacy dashboard and report links to the new experience, so don’t run that step until you are ready for everyone to migrate.
Q. would content blocks in old dashboards migrate to the new dashboard?
A. Content blocks should move in compatibility (iFrame) mode. So it’s useable. However, anything you’ve done in a content block is technically customization. With that in mind, we suggest recreating anything in a legacy content block in the technical dashboard/UI Builder. That should ensure future upgradability. Think of it as technical dashboards being a replacement for content blocks.
Q. Can colors be conditonal?
A. There’s color rules you can use to apply colors conditionally.
Q. Can you create a scripted filter?
A. That might end up being a use case for the technical editor/ui builder.
Q. Hello! For multi select filters, will the options selected stay in the filter for the different users for each dashboard? So if I select 3 assignment groups as my filter, the next time I go to that dashboard will the selections still be in the filter?
A. Yes it will stay for you, it will not apply to other users. You can set Default values in the Filter that would affect everyone that visited the dashboard.
Q. how to we get to home page of the Service Operations Workspace after creating and add the Dashboard
A. You can access the new home page we set just like you’d normally access SOW through the workspace menu. We changed the order of the variant so it would display first for everyone. You can change what appears to different users using order, audience, and conditions on the page setting.
Q. When to create a variant and how many variants can be created and what is best practice around creating variants?
A. We go over this best practice in our next experience academy - check out the episode on workspace best practices.
Q. Whne you move the PA dashboard into UI Builder, does that allow further changes to the PA Dashboard to display in UI Builder or was what you showed a one-time conversion into UIB?
A. I just am referencing the dashboard itself in the dashboard component - any changes to the dashboard will update the ui builder page moving forward.
Q. I'd appreciate if you could keep browser's address bar visible when demo'ing, it's just helping me out to follow 😉 Thanks!
A. thanks for the heads up - i tend to use the arc browser to keep the look clean. I’ll see how i can find a middle ground for this.
Q. any potential for migration center to get Vancouver compatibility?
A. Unfortunately not. The platform in Vancounver is not compatible.
