I experimented with creating some components a few years ago, and tried again today by following the Environment Setup for Next Experience—installing the ServiceNow CLI, running snc extension add --name ui-component, etc. There were tons of npm errors and warnings, so I stopped. Although the CLI was last updated in 2025, it looks like the UI components/framework haven’t been updated in about three years (based on the npm repository).
Has this approach been replaced by something else? What is the recommended practice for developing custom components now?
