Next Experience missing global search option

In our instance we are missing the global search source as shown below for the global search toolbar. Does anyone have any idea how to add the global search to this list?

We have the now experience search config but it still doesn't show the global source in the search bar.

I know this string is pretty old, but putting this out there in case anyone else stumbles across it.  We were having the same issue and it turned out to be a system property (glide.ui.polaris.global_search).  Once I swapped this from false to true the global search option displayed alongside our workspace choices.
