Avoiding single point of failure by creating a 'manager group'

Hi,
We are planning to create a group access request that will have an approval step that requires the manager of a group to approve or reject the request before adding them to the group.
Leadership has some concerns about there being a single point of failure with this process. I've heard some folks talking about creating a 'manager group' that could be put into that manager field so that more than one person could approve the group access request.
My questions:
* Do you have experience with this setup and how did you implement it?
* Is the use of 'manager groups' customization? We are working to stay OOB.
* Are there ServiceNow best practices that support having just one person as the manager of a group?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts and advice!

Hi @lisawalbrid
Do you have experience with this setup and how did you implement it?
A: Yes I have. For one of my client , they have catalog where they need to fillup the form
Variable we have like
- Requested for
- Select Groups(s)
- Environment like Prod, sub-prod1, sub-prod 2
- Justification
2. Request will go for 2 level approval -manager of requested for, manager of Group
3. Once they approve, Fullfillment i.e Access is given
* Is the use of 'manager groups' customization? We are working to stay OOB.
A: Its Catalog - RITM which you have to build it. I don't think we have anything OOB on it.
* Are there ServiceNow best practices that support having just one person as the manager of a group?
A: Manager is a Reference field in a group. Its single select.
