What is Instance Health?

 

We all have had that question, "Is there something wrong with the ServiceNow Instance?" A coworker may ask this question because of a slow machine or issues with the network. System administrators still have to hunt down the reason for their inquiry and it's time-consuming. Wouldn't it be nice to have data that points out issues that potentially could be a problem?

The following chapters represent stand-alone solutions under the umbrella of "Instance Health".

Health Scan

 

When you are having troubles with your ServiceNow instance performance and manageability, it is a good sign that you did something wrong on the way, Health Scan is a ServiceNow utility that helps your company to investigate in areas that you should focus on to have a better experience. This feature can examine your instance against a set of best practices and ensure that you are in the track, point out certain issues or areas that should be revised. Health scan gives you scores about five sections that you can focus on, Manageability, Performance, Security, upgradability, and user experience.
Notice that the Health Scan is a service provided by ServiceNow under their Customer Success Management or Configuration review program. If you wish to obtain it, reach out to your ServiceNow success preventative or your professional service executive. Also, you should know that this service is free only in a basic and reduced version. For the extended version with all checks and detailed explanations, you have to pay for.

Instance Troubleshooter

 

Instance Troubleshooter, a free store application, helps ServiceNow instance administrators to resolve issues on their instances by themselves. This application can detect issues in the instance across several product categories. When the administrator invokes the troubleshooter, each product troubleshooter runs one or more checks and reports findings with detailed information and links to resolving the issues by themselves. The administrator can view the progress, review the findings, and take actions to fix the issues on the instance.
