Create Favorites - Automatically!
This Utility creates Intelligent Favorites automatically based on an Update set.
Benefits
- This utility helps solve browser tab madness, by allowing you change quickly and use fewer tabs.
- The tester can quickly generate Favorites for your code - and speed up testing.
- If you perform some rework on a Job, you can rerun the Utility and your Favorites will be put back at the top again for easy access.
- Some of the Favorites are SMART. For example, If you use GSLog for logging, the Utility will display the recent syslog entries within the last minute with the matching source field for your application.
- The Utility allows companies to customize company specific Favorites in a Common section (see below).
- If you have any ideas for other "Smart" Favorites, please post a comment.
To download the Utility and to see the list of features please visit the ServiceNow Share Site.

Hi Doug,
I really like the Idea, because favorites are on the platform, but that's about it. I don't think much has been done with it after creation of the possibility.
I do wonder what the use case would be for creating favorites from the stuff in an update set. Working for several customers on many cases per customer (10 - 20 update sets per week) it's much easier to just open the update set and go to the object from there. Especially since 9 out of 10 times I don't have to go back to things I created in an update set.
The 'common' functionality is very welcome! A lot of customers are asking for 'standard sets of favorites' depending on the role(s).
Nice job creating this!

Hi Mark. Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking that one could have different types of "Common" for different types of Projects. This is version 1. Let me knowe if you have any other ideas.

Working with all kinds of customers with different responsibilities it would be great to have something like 'if you are part of group X, you get favorites Y'.
I created a script for this years ago, because it was really needed, until the customer found out that the users were deleting favorites and creating their own, but having something more easier to control in place, is great.

I have just published v1.5. v1.3 had a bit of a performance issue / coding error.
I will leave it alone now for a while. I think v1.5 is reasonably OK.
