Business Analyst Roles ServiceNow

Hi everyone,

I’m currently enrolled in the Now Learning program for Business Process Analyst by ServiceNow. While my IT experience is limited to a couple of years as a Desktop Support Consultant, I have extensive skills in data analysis from my recent positions.

Given my background and strong interest in transitioning into this career at 40, I’m seeking advice on my prospects. Is it realistic to expect a good chance of getting hired after completing this program, or should I anticipate significant challenges? Additionally, what steps can I take to improve my chances of success in this field?

Thank you for your insights!

Feel free to adjust any details to better fit your specific situation.

Best,

Graham M

Hi @GM1215,

I can share some skills that I belive a BA can benefit in achieving.  From a developer's standpoint I expect BAs to be really accustomed to how agile methodology works and how it's applied in ServiceNow. There's a mention of that in the BA path journey you provided the links for but there's is an actual course for agile application itself in Nowlearning. I've worked with BAs who have to facilitate workshops on applications in ServiceNow so being able to present and we'll versed when answering questions during these workshops are also important. Its important to have these soft skills in communication because you'll be doing alot of that between customers and developers. Being able to communicate to a developer as you feed them requirements or answer their follow up questions is also important so that you're on the same page without assumptions being made. Testing is also important as a BA before demoing and handing off completed requirements to the customer. Automated test framework is another nowlearning course that can help with testing.

I've helped interview BAs before and the soft skills and being able to present confidently is what I look for. The foundational knowledge definitely helps in ServiceNow but there often times some things you have to do workshops for that you're not exactly an expert on so you have to learn the new knowledge anyway. Hope this helps!
