AI, Trust, and the Meaning of Data with Dean Allemang

Ask a chatbot a question and you expect it to just *know* the answer — like a friend who's read everything. But that's not actually how anyone who relies on AI for real work uses it. They give it their meeting notes, their docs, their specific situation, and let the AI do what it's good at: making sense of it. The same is true inside ServiceNow. So why does it still feel risky to trust an AI's answer about your own business? On September 25 at 1 PM ET/10 AM PT, this session will work through that question directly: why "AI is only as powerful as your data" isn't just a slogan, why access to data isn't the same as understanding what it means, and what it actually looks like to build responsibly with AI — treating it as a way to connect to the truth, not a replacement for it.

ABOUT DEAN: Dean Allemang is a Senior Staff Research Scientist at ServiceNow and the author of Semantic Web for the Working Ontologist, one of the standard references in the knowledge graph field. Before joining ServiceNow in 2025, he spent his career helping enterprises figure out what their data actually means and how to make that meaning something a machine can use — work that's suddenly at the center of every conversation about AI. He was recently a lecturer at the ISC 2026 Summer School on Knowledge, Reasoning & Decision-Making at the University of Quebec at Montreal, and shares the same ideas with a particular application to building responsibly with AI at ServiceNow.
