Hello  @Luis Ataide

I'm seeking advice  on the demand and project baselines.
We're considering migrating  baseline process to the new Project Workspace and Financials page but need to ensure data integrity and consistent reporting.

Can you please confirm if my understanding of the data model is correct?

My Understanding

The traditional (legacy) baseline processes use these tables:

  • pm_project_baseline: Stores high-level project baselines created from the classic UI's "Baselines" related list, as well as those generated automatically (e.g.  BR that is triggered when project status changes to WIP)
  • planned_task_baseline: Stores baselines for individual tasks, including those on Demands. It's also used for time-scheduled baselines.

The new Project Workspace and Financials page, however, use a different table:

  • sn_invst_pln_investment_baseline:  table for financial baselines created in the Project Workspace - Financial page .
  • The Financial page does not display the baselines that are created in the Project Workspace, in related list 'Baselines' or in the classic UI project form

Our Current process:

  • Users can create baselines manually e.g. in the Demand / Project via the related list
  • Baselines are created automatically with a scheduled job on regular bases or when requested via catalog iem
  • Complex reports created for the baseline data
  • Baselines are created when demand is converted to a project or when project status changes to WIP

What options I see that we have

Option A: Stay with the Current Process (Short-Term Solution), we continue using our existing methods and pm_project_baseline table.
We'd hide the new baseline creation option in the Project Workspace- Financail page, to prevent data fragmentation.

  • Pro: This is the path of least effort, maintains our existing reports, and avoids immediate disruption.
  • Con: It defers the alignment with ServiceNow's SPM and prevents us from using the new financial capabilities available in the Financial page.

Option B: Migrate to the new Data Model (Long-Term Solution) to fully utilize the new Project Workspace Financial page and store data in tge sn_invst_pln_investment_baseline table.

  • Which would mean
    • Migrate all historical data from pm_project_baseline to the new table.
    • Rewrite all reports to use the new table.
    • Update all automated jobs, scheduled jobs, and Catalog Items to create baselines in the new table.
    • Hide the legacy "Baselines" related list on Project and Demand forms.

I would appreciate any insights, experiences, or recommendations you can share. Thank you

A.
