Project Workbench support changes from the Australia release
If you have been running projects in Project Workbench (classic experience) for some time, you are already familiar with how it helps manage projects in ServiceNow. This article explains what is changing and what is not as ServiceNow transitions investment to the Next Experience Project Workspace, and how you can plan your next steps with confidence
A Planned Transition, not a Forced Cut-Off
Project Workbench is not being removed from your instance. Your projects, tasks, and data remain available. What is changing is how the application is supported over time, and where ServiceNow is focusing future innovation.
Understanding the transition phases helps clarify what action, if any, you need to take.
|
Phase 1: Xanadu to Zurich Planned Transition The application remains fully functional. Your team can continue using it, and it carries forward through platform upgrades. Hidden from the store for new activations, but existing subscriptions are honored. |
Phase 2: Australia Release Concludes The application remains in your instance, and your data is intact. However, it is treated as a custom code. ServiceNow Technical Support is no longer obligated to provide fixes, patches, or assistance for issues arising within it. |
🔺 For the full technical definition of each phase, see the ServiceNow knowledge article
What This Means for Your Work
The clearest way to think about deprecation is through two lenses: what continues unchanged, and what shifts.
| What stays the same | What changes |
|
Your projects, tasks, and data |
New development and enhancements |
|
Access to the application in your instance |
Technical Support coverage after deprecation |
|
Existing resource plans and financials |
Bug fixes and maintenance patches |
|
Upgrades to new Now Platform releases |
Self-activation on new instances |
|
Support for Project Workbench ends from Australia release! The most material change is on the support side. Once Classic Project Workspace reaches Phase 2 at the Australia release, ServiceNow will no longer provide bug fixes, security patches, or technical assistance for issues that originate within that application. The Project Workbench does NOT disappear from your instance, but the safety net does. |
As previously communicated, all ServiceNow project management investment including new capabilities, AI‑assisted features, enhanced financial tooling, and deeper reporting is now focused entirely on the Next Experience Project Workspace.
