Calculation of users' availability and allocated resource

Hi there,

I'm fairly new to SPM and we are in the process of building our demand and resource management module for our team.

Mostly everything has been built as required, including the submission form for demand requests, the back end view of the record, and creating resource plans. We have utilised Operational Plans to pre-consume operational day to day work that some groups/users are required to do. For this, we have applied a 20/80 rule ratio. 20% pre-consumed, leaving 80% available for project/enhancement work as required. The default resource management schedule is used to determine working patterns/hours.

However, when I allocate resource to a demand (by person days), I expected to see the allocated time to reflect the 20/80 rule.

E.g. let's say I work 37.5hrs a week, 20% of that time is 7.5 which equates to 30hrs a week of availability for project work (or 6hrs a day based on a 7.5hr day). I allocated 30 days of a resource to the demand over a period of 4 months (September-December 2025) to be spread monthly/evenly. I anticpated that this would be 30days x 6hrs (as they only have 6hrs per working day) and expected to see a total of 180 planned hours allocated to this demand. However, it's calculated this as 225 planned hours, which equates to a 7.5hr working day? This tells me it's not taking the operational plan (and the 20/80 ratio) into account.

Am I missing something or have I misunderstood how this works?

Thanks in advance!

Jon

Have you verified the setup of your operational resource plans, rate model and default 8-5 schedule?  See this great article for configuring Operational Resource Plans >> https://www.servicenow.com/community/spm-articles/operational-resource-plan-all-that-you-need-to-kno...
