Hello there,
I previously could not see any Stories when viewing the Product Backlog in the Planning Board. This frustrated me initially because the wiki wasn't very clear on this.
For example, I didn't have the option to view "Product Backlog." I only had the options to view "Scrum Release Backlog" and "Sprint Backlog":
After trial and error, I noticed that if you follow these basic steps (or rules) you should be able to view a product's stories not assigned to a release/sprint:
- Create a Product
- Create Themes & Epics at any time.
- Create a Release
- Note - you have to relate a Product to a Release (or vise-verse) otherwise you won't see any Stories in the "Product Backlog" when viewing the Planning Board (You can do this in the tab section at the bottom of the release or product form). This is because you have to select a specific release when viewing the Planning Board. It seems ServiceNow uses the relationship the release has with its product for the planning board to show all stories (for that product) not yet assigned to a release.
- Create Stories
- Note - you have to relate the Story to a Product otherwise you won't be able to view the story in the "Product Backlog" when viewing the Planning Board.
- Can relate the story to Themes or Epics at any time
After I followed these steps I was able to view Product Backlog:
Hope this helps! If anyone else has more information or clarification please add.
Thank you.

Thank you - this is very helpful. The wiki is very misleading here, but what you said works perfectly. Thank you!!
