From my understanding task dependencies are only available to another task if both those tasks are in the same project or subproject.
Is this a true statement? Or should Project allow you to link a dependencies from 2 or more unrelated projects?
Reason I ask is for the fact I have a program (project) that has 13 streams (sub-projects) that each of those have potentially 2-5 sub-projects.
My understanding is I had to have everything under the main Program 'Project'. If I have this it makes things like the GANTT CHART very busy and long.
Any guidance on what is abilities and/or best practice for such a large program and their dependencies.
Thanks!
Michael

Hi Arun,
Thank you for your response.
It is sad to hear that the feature is not currently available now.
But it is good also to hear that the feature will available in the Jakarta version-our city.
Do you have any information when approximately the version will be released ?

michaeldehaas@mgmmacau.com Have a question for you - rather need an input from you.
When you put relations between tasks of two different projects - what kind of dependency is that? Will it be a soft dependency which you can track and it will not impact on any date calculations of the projects - will that suffice?

Thanks @arun Vy - I was looking at the next release Geneva and I have experience the same. Typically in our projects there is no big deal as they aren't as large as building an entire multi billion dollar project. However, with a project this size there are dependencies in different projects that I need to understand how to link to. If I have them separated then we can't make any dependencies within ServiceNow. So now I'm stuck with 30+ projects nested under one project. Massive a Gantt Chart.

Hello Michael,
When you say you just need to link - are you doing this to keep track of the status of that particular task per the other project's task.
Example:
If you are installing a new server as a project task in Project A but in Project B and Project C, you need to know if the server was installed or not because if it was, you need to then do some task in Project B and Project C.
Are you needing to just "LINK" the project's task but now have the project tasks dependent on one another. Meaning one should not start or complete before the other one is finished.
Is this what the need is?
Just trying to understand your need.

We have been working with SN PS team and we have come with a new tab that will show all the predecessors and successors along with the detailed information in one view. This will be within the project and also and most importantly outside of the project. A much easier way to view these dependencies! Once I have this setup in Production and working I will come back here and share the details on what we did.
