Different Resource Assignment Allocation Behavior Between Yokohama and Zurich in Project Workspace

Hello,

I am investigating a difference in Resource Assignment behavior between Yokohama and Zurich releases in Project Workspace.

In our Yokohama environment, when assigning effort to a task that spans multiple weeks, the effort is automatically distributed across the planned weeks.

For example:

  • Task duration: approximately 4 weeks
  • Effort: 6 hours

The weekly allocation is displayed as:

  • Week 1: 2 hours
  • Week 2: 1 hour
  • Week 3: 3 hours
  • Week 4: 0 hours

Similarly, if the effort is set to 4 hours, the allocation becomes:

  • Week 1: 2 hours
  • Week 2: 0 hours
  • Week 3: 2 hours
  • Week 4: 0 hours

The allocation appears to be distributed automatically across the task duration.

However, in our Zurich environment, using a task with a similar multi-week duration and 6 hours of effort, all 6 hours are allocated to the first planned week, with no distribution across subsequent weeks.

Example:

  • Task duration: multiple weeks
  • Effort: 6 hours

Result:

  • Week 1: 6 hours
  • Week 2+: 0 hours

My questions are:

  1. Is the distributed allocation behavior in Yokohama an expected product behavior?
  2. Is there a configuration that controls how effort is spread across planned weeks?
  3. Has the resource allocation logic changed between Yokohama and Zurich?
  4. Is this related to Allocation Spread Type, Resource Schedule, or another setting?

Any information about documented behavior or release-related changes would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
