HELPPPP !!!! Idea Portal, Create a Idea

Whenever I am trying to create a idea on idea portal , it is showing category as mandatory .Is there any possible ways to make it unmandate .I tried making it false in IM Create/Edit widget but the asterisk has gone and its still showing the filed should be filled before creating an idea . Orelse is there any other way to make category field read-only and only one category with name 'Default' populates automatically .....

Hope you are doing well.

Looks from the post that you are in urgency of removing the category. You may do that.

Now before you make it non-mandatory or remove from the form,  my 2 cents - Think about this decision again. Are you doing this just because business users are asking for it? 

In most of the cases, these ideas are looked by a group of folks who have a responsibility to take a decision on that idea based on content, votes, comments etc... Now the only way, which idea will be looked by which group depends on the category. It is the category, using which the workflow is designed to route these ideas are routed to the intended group. 

Please discuss with the stakeholders in case category is not there, then how will you route these ideas to the intended group. There may be another way and I don't know enough about the process in your organization but my suggestion is not to take it off or make it non-mandatory...

You may also think of adding an option as Other (in category) and folks can choose 'Other'. It is as good as not selecting any category.

If you still feel that category should be non-mandatory, you can raise a support case and ask how to make it non-mandatory.

I have created a recording to showcase the steps to configure the idea category.

Hope this answers the question. If it does, please mark it as correct answer.

 

Following are the steps in case recording is not accessible: 

1. Access Idea Category Config from left navigation menu 

All -> Ideas -> Settings -> Idea Category Config

The first field in the above screenshot shows the category table - im_category.

 

2. So, let's add new value 'Others' in im_category:

3. Once the value is added, it will be available as one of the categories for end users while creating the idea.

You can also filter on 'Others' to get a list of ideas in 'Others' category
