How to manage leave of absence in resource management?

Dear experts,

My turn to ask a question.

ServiceNow resource management allows you to schedule resources to be dispatched on projects.

How do you manage vacations for workers?

If I have a big project coming and assign a team on it, how can the system be informed that an employee will be absent for two weeks?

Is there a process allowing an employee to declare and manage its own leave of absence?

Should I use time cards and some vacations project task?

Hi Shiva,

Good to see you and yes I believe making "Absence/Leave" time cards available (2-3 weeks in advance) to the resources can be a way to do it. (I see where you get this idea )

Also, HR application allows us to "Request leave of absence", once this gets approved the same can be reflected on the Resource plans and the respective time sheets. I'm not sure if this is available OOB.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Harshit

Hi Harshit,

Thank you for the reply.

I can't check the HR module, as it is not availlable for PersonelDevelopper Instances.

I'll try do do a POC with the "Absence/Leave" time cards, and I will mark your answer as correct if no one else submit another suggestion in the next few days.

Hi Shiva,

I have this in my personal dev instance, although not sure of any further restrictions.

Hi Shiva,

Here is what I have found,

Under Resource > Calendars > My Calendar -- one can record the type of task(s) undertaken in the whole day (whether it is Project Work, Appointment, Time-off, etc.).

The OOTB way to access this for other users would be someone with the following roles, namely: "resource_user", "itil", "pps_resource". Once these roles are assigned they can access this module (Under Resource > Calendars > My Calendar).

Another thing I noticed, as someone with "resource_manager" role, I was able to check all the respective time-calendar for the folks.
