Operational Resource Plans

Dear SPM Users,

Today I would like to hear from you about the process of creating the operational resource plans (RPLNs).

In most of the cases, I have seen these RPLNs are created for a certain %capacity in the beginning of the year for the resource groups.

Do you manually create these RPLNs in the beginning of the year or is there any other better way to create them?

Looking forward to hear from you.

Thanks,

Namita Mishra

Hi @Talya ,

would like to understand few points before sharing my thoughts.

Please explain

1. The type of work for which these users (timecard user license but not pps_resource) submit the time cards &

2. How is their capacity gets calculated in the organization?

Thanks,

Namita Mishra

Hi @Namita Mishra ,

Customer has purchased timecard license (let's say 650) for all users but SPM licenses are few.

They have both ITSM and ITBM modules.

350 users are assigned pps_resource role and assigned to Resource groups -> who work for demand/ project /Project tasks.

Operational resource plans and Resource plans are created to manage these users and they submit timesheet associating the resource plan.

There are remaining 300 ITSM users who should submit timesheet.  But they do not want to submit timesheet towards each incident /change/problem they work on. Reason being they work for around 25 incidents per week.

As part of their requirements we have created few operational categories towards which they want to track the effort of their employees instead of incident level.

We cannot create resource plan for these users /view capacity as they don't have pps_resource role.

They want all the users to submit timecards as they want to track the actual effort of employees.

Also they want to calculate the expenses for these efforts. So expense line creation is important here.

But as per OOTB functionality expense line is not created for timecard submitted towards operational category if no resource plan is associated with it.

I have posted a question asking pps_resource role is free role or license is required.

If it's free role then we can associate pps_resource role to all ITSM users and users with SPM license (resource managers) can manage these resources by creating resource plans for these users as well.

Thanks,

Talya
