Planning Console states do not match Project Task States

Hi all!

I’m trying to customize our state options in ServiceNow SPM. We’ve updated the existing pm_project_task state choices to match terminology that’s more familiar to our team.

The changes work perfectly when viewing the Project Task form, but in the Planning Console grid view, the state column still shows the original OOTB labels. Interestingly, when I click on a state in the grid, it updates to the new label—but the initial display remains the old one.

Question:

  • Does anyone know how to make the new state labels appear in the Planning Console grid view by default?
  • Would it be better practice to create new states instead of repurposing existing ones (note: the ones we repurposed aren’t used by any workflows)?

For reference:

  • We changed Open → Exception
  • We changed Delivered → Not Applicable

So, what I am seeing is:

1. I try to change the state from the grid view of the planning console, but only see the default state labels

2. I select one of the states I have customised "EG: open"

3. When I click away onto a new project task (in the grid view) the state label updates to show the customised state label "EG: Open becomes Exception"

Any guidance or best practices would be greatly appreciated!
