Project - Copy an existing project into a project template - Not working for customer.

Customer uses the copy an existing project function to create a project template, has project manager role, and process doesn't work for them.  They get the name the new template screen fine and after that it just jumps to the project again but no template was created under the name they put in.  They don't get the screen after that where they can modify and save the template details being created.

I using admin do the exact same process and it works fine for me (I get the screen that lets me name and then the screen that lets me modify and save the project template details).   Is there and additional role that is needed besides project manager to make a template from an existing project needed that isn't listed in the documentation or are we missing something else?

Hi @Aaron93 ,

Please guide them to use the UI action - "Save as New Template" to save the project as a template.

Hope this will solve the issue. If it does, please mark the response as correct answer.

Happy SPM Journey!

Yea that is exactly what we are using but it is not saving.....   He has the proper it_project_manager role.

  • Hey did you ever find a resolution to this? I’m having the same issue

The response from ServiceNow when I asked for a solution:

It is a known issue: Problem record has been tagged to the case - PRB1797917
PRB1797917 - Unable to create Project Template via the 'Save as New Template' Related link with project_manager role

Solution Proposed:
As a workaround you can have a 'Create' ACL on 'project_template' table for 'project_manager' role.
