Hi all,
Can someone tell to me what will change the status in a project? Or it is a field you have to change manually.
I was assuming the "status report - overall health status" will reflect the project status. It is the instance HI instance
Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,
The State field on the Project Form is always editable to the Users having role as "it_project_manager" and can be changed manually. So Initially when the Project form is Opened the state remains in Pending, Once you start the project by clicking on the Start Project button the state automatically changes to Work in progress.
Another factor which controls the Project State is Roll Up and Roll Down as explained below:
Project State automatically changes when the Child State i.e Project Task state gets changed. Basically the Project Task State like "Work in progress and Closed Complete" gets Rolled Up to the Parent Project form.
Similarly project State can also Roll Down to the child Project task say for example if the Parent project is closed all the child Project task would get Closed Completed.
You can review the below Business Rule for more details which controls this functionality:
Process State Change
Below thread from kellykaufmann would be useful on your query:

Hope this helps.Mark the answer as correct/helpful based on impact.

Hi Andy
You have to manually set the status values for each project. To do this you would go to the Status Reports tab and click on the 'New' button and create and save the status report. This status information is pulled into OOTB reports though. For example, you can view all status reports you created by navigating to Projects > My Status Reports, and you can view all status reports at Project > All Status Reports. And you can view status for all projects within a Portfolio by navigating to Project > Portfolios > All, selecting a Portfolio, and selecting 'Portfolio Status' from the Related Links section. This will display the latest status report entered for each of those reports.
If you manually want to create a report from the status fields in the OOTB status report (that you went to by clicking 'New' from the 'Status Report' tab) - those fields are from the table: Status Report [project_status] and the fields are 'Overall Health', 'Cost', 'Scope', 'Schedule', and 'Resources'.
