Resource Assignment Vs Resource Plans

Can you use both Resource Plans and Resource Assignments in Zurich?  Is there any negative impacts if they are both being used?

Using both classic Resource Plans and the newer Resource Assignments in the Zurich release is not recommended.

"As an end user, when you are using resource assignments, you can ignore the resource plans and so you do not have to manually update anything in the resource plans. "
