Rounding down of FTE from 0.5 to 0.49

We are using resource assignments in Project Management using FTE.  When we create a resource assignment for 0.5 FTE it consistently updates to 0.49.  The users schedule is for a 7 hour working day monday-friday and we have updated the "com.snc.resource_management.average_daily_fte" system property to 7 hours as well.

Any idea what could be causing this to happen?

Hello @Nat Hunter,

The system tries to allocate resources in 60-minute chunks. It cannot allocate exactly 3.5 hours because "3.5" is not a whole number multiple of the 60-minute interval. Consequently, it rounds the daily allocation down (typically to 3 hours or an uneven spread), which recalculates the total FTE to approximately 0.49 when averaged back out over the duration.

You need to lower the allocation interval so that 3.5 hours becomes a valid multiple of the time block.

  1. Navigate to All > Properties- Resource.
  2. Search for the property: Calendar Event Duration (Minutes)

  3. Change the Value from 60 to 30 (or 15).
    • 30 minutes allows for allocations like 3.5 hours, 7.5 hours, etc.
    • 15 minutes offers even more granularity if you have specific partial availability.

4. Save the property.

Thank you SO much Muhammad!  That worked a charm!  Any ideas on the best way to handle Resource Assignments that already have actuals against them as we are unable to update the FTE on those records.  First thought is to end them at the end of the month and create new ones for the balance of the initiative.  Do you have any suggestions?
