Services and Service Offerings in [Draft]

When you open a service in Service Builder - the Name is updated to include the word [Draft] - indicating the service and associated offerings are being updated.

This automatically disappears when you publish or cancel your changes.

However, until those changes are published or cancelled, the service name appears with the word [Draft] in it - when you are looking for services to associated to an incident, change or problem for example.

The "way" to avoid this is to only show published services BUT in this particular scenario, we are talking about a service that has already been published and is just being updated (and perhaps even the person who opened it in Service Builder doesn't realise, or has forgotten, that the service hasn't been republished or that the changes need to be cancelled to take the service out of [Draft]).

Has anyone found a method to manage this (apart from only showing "published" services)?  I would have expected this to work similarly to Knowledge Articles where everyone sees the old version until the new version is published.

hi @Sandra Clendon  ,

I would check whether the service reference field can be configured to display only the published version of the service, while keeping the existing published record available during updates.

If Service Builder changes the service name itself to include [Draft], you may need to review how the reference qualifier and display value are configured for the service table. I would avoid modifying the service name through a Business Rule, as it could interfere with the Service Builder publishing process.

If there is no OOTB configuration to handle this, I would recommend raising it with ServiceNow Support to confirm whether this is expected behaviour or a product limitation.

If this helped, mark it helpful and accept the solution.
