Straight to hard allocation? Requesting resources from Project Workspace

Hello Community,

I have a question I have not found the answer to yet. I checked the documentation, searched the community, and dug into the script includes a little bit. I hope you would not mind answering should you know.

While assigning resources from the project workspace, it appears that the assignment goes straight to hard allocations preventing centralized resource management from occurring, that is, starting with a request, going to soft allocation, then on to hard.

Is that expected behavior?

Is there a way without customization to enable the request process (such as setting some property, or whatever)?

I found the issue. I was doing an assignment type of "group" rather than user.

Requesting for a group (developers) and this behavior takes the number of hours and spreads it evenly between each of the members... I have in essence already picked the people for that assignment.

However, if I choose and assignment type of "User", I can still choose the group (or role, or skill), and then the user has not been picked yet... the resource manager can then go to the resource assignment and change it from a request to a booking.
