Hi @Captain Gaming ,

Hope you are doing well...

"Is update resource capacity in user profile(resource manager view) is same as update capacity in resource allocation workbench. " - Answer is Yes.

Both these actions call the schedule job - "Update resource capacity".

Hope this helps and if it does please mark the response as Correct Answer to help me and others in the community.

Hi @Namita Mishra
Thank you for your response. Really appreciate your efforts😊.

Update capacity in resource allocation workbench:
1. If an employee is available after the year has begun, then the capacity is generated from the current year's beginning, to ensure that missing capacity is accounted for. For example, if the employee's capacity is available from March 1, 2022 to June 1, 2022, then the updated capacity is generated from January 1, 2022 to June 1, 2022.What is the reason behind generating capacity for January and February when the employee is available only from March?
Servicenow Documentation: https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bundle/yokohama-it-business-management/page/product/resource-managem...

2. From where it is taking Employee Start date?

3. What would be the impact of modifying this out-of-the-box (OOB) functionality so that capacity is generated only from the employee's actual start date instead of the beginning of the year?

4. If it is possible to modify the OOB functionality, please provide a step-by-step process to ensure that capacity is generated only from the user’s actual start date (e.g., if a user is added to the group on March 1, and we are update the capacity for that user, capacity should be generated starting from March 1 instead of January 1).

5. what is your suggestions on these update capacity to go only for ootb or not?

Hi @Captain Gaming ,

Great that response was helpful.

I believe you misunderstood the document statement.

Let me answer the points one by one:

You cannot generate the capacity outside the employment dates. In this case, you cannot generate the capacity for January and February if the employment start date is March.

For example:

User employment start date is March 1st , refer employment profile screenshot..

Now run the resource report to just check the capacity of this user. Note that Jan & Feb has zero capacity since user's employment start date is March 1st

Now you try to update the user's capacity using the UI acton and provide the start date as January (basically when the user was NOT employed). You will get an error as system will NOT generate the capacity outside the employment dates.

2.  "From where it is taking Employee Start date?"

It takes the start date and end date from the employment profile of that user.

3. "What would be the impact of modifying this out-of-the-box (OOB) functionality so that capacity is generated only from the employee's actual start date instead of the beginning of the year?"

I believe the explanation for point #1# takes away the need to answer point #3 - 5

OOTB behaviour is as you expected.

Hope this answers the queries & if it does please mark it as Correct Answer to help me & community.

Hi @Namita Mishra
I know its based on employee start date and end date if user having employee profile but in my scenario user does not have employee profile and user profile created on jan 21 2025. Here I have added the user in group in march 1st and then i have given start date as march 1st in that ui action update capacity but the capacity is generating from january.
Now can you answer below points:
1.If an employee is available after the year has begun, then the capacity is generated from the current year's beginning, to ensure that missing capacity is accounted for. For example, if the employee's capacity is available from March 1, 2022 to June 1, 2022, then the updated capacity is generated from January 1, 2022 to June 1, 2022.What is the reason behind generating capacity for January and February when the employee is available only from March?

2.  "From where it is taking Start date and if you find any related script , BR, Can you please share with me?"

3. "What would be the impact of modifying this out-of-the-box (OOB) functionality so that capacity is generated only from the employee's actual start date instead of the beginning of the year?"
