Career Journey and Certification

I currently work as Service Level Manager. I have experience in ServiceNow for more than 7 years basically in reporting, tickets, SLAs, Dashboards. I would like to progress my career fully in ServiceNow but I am confused which Career Journey to chose. My questions:

  1. Is performance analytics good career for me? Previously it was listed under Application Specialist but now I cannot see this career journey.
  2. Is it mandatory to do CSA certification before progressing to other career journey?
  3. What about implementer journey? Which field in implementer journey is most in demand now-a-days?
  4. I am least interested in coding and development. What about business analyst role?

Please help.

Hi @RajatC

Greetings!!

I am a ServiceNow Trainer and working in the SN ecosystem for the last 10 years, let me share my view:

  1. Is performance analytics a good career for me? Previously it was listed under Application Specialist but now I cannot see this career journey.

Atul: PA is just a module in SN, which is required if you are working in the Reporting Area, by learning PA your day-to-day work will be easy but it is not a journey.

  1. Is it mandatory to do CSA certification before progressing to other career journey?

Atul: CSA is the basis and a recommended course and cert. CSA will give you an idea about the platform. Almost every company demand minimum CSA cert.

  1. What about implementer journey? Which field in implementer journey is most in demand now-a-days?

Atul: Tough to say, which is in demand. It depends on your previous skills and interest, you can go for a PM or BA journey.

  1. I am least interested in coding and development. What about business analyst role?

Atul: I am a pure BA / BPC. If you understand the platform functionally, BA will be a good role.

Thanks for your response. I understand that PA is not a journey but there are PA certifications available. Are they useful or knowledge is enough?

Hi @RajatC

I will sat, first learn , pratice and then go for certification.

Evert module in SN is good learn.

Hi @RajatC ,

  1. performance analytics certification will be a good path, if you would like to work with more advanced reporting, but keep in the reporting sphere. It's still listed under application specialist - here is the link: https://nowlearning.servicenow.com/lxp/en/pages/now-learning-get-certified?id=amap_detail&summary_id...
  2. No, it's not mandatory but in general good practice, as this will give you some good fundamental understanding of the platform.
  3. It really depends on different companies, markets etc. I have seen several looking into the GRC, but again, very different dependent on the different companies.
  4. If you're not interested in coding and development, then i'm unsure why you're looking into ServiceNow certifications... in general in all area you will encounter coding / development.
