CIS - Data Foundations (CMDB and CSDM)

Arnab22

Hi,

I hold a CSA and CIS-ITSM certification, and I received an email regarding the CIS Data Foundations (CMDB and CSDM). It appears this is a new certification that must be completed. Can someone confirm if this is true? Also, if I go to now learning, I don't see any designated course or training, unlike the other certification exams. Can someone share the exact link to the training course?

Thanks

Hi @Arnab22 ,

Yes, Certified Implementation Specialist - Data Foundations (CMDB and CSDM) (CIS-DF (CMDB and CSDM)) is now compulsory to take if you have ITSM certificate and should be completed by Dec 2026.

Also its compulsory for other certification too, you can follow this thread to know more:

Greetings,

Although I do understand your sentiment, being restrictive to knowledge that help better understand how to incorporate, implement, and improve organizations with ITSM is essential to realizing value of its full capabilities. This is no different than stating that ITIL is not needed to understand ITSM, for it is the core foundation of how ITSM was built on for many products not just ServiceNow.

The certification merely validates the understanding of the core components and Data Foundation needed to allow ITSM to fully be realized for an organization. The details of the CMDB isn't what this certification is aiming at, but aligns with core fundamental capabilities that need to be understood for a successful ITSM implementation and outcome.

Does it impact and increase revenue for ServiceNow? Yes.

Does it appear that this has a double edge sword to it? Yes.

Does the due date supply sufficient time to go through and learn or better understand Data Foundation? Yes.

I understand your stance and frustration on this, but to believe that knowledge ends with knowing just what ITSM is, or any subject matter, and continuous learning and education is not required, is what holds many people back from being agile in a digital fast pace changing environment of technology.

We can agree to disagree. I think taking someone's hard earned certification away because the goal post was later moved and the rules changed is alarming and unfair. I was a teacher for over 2 decades and earned my certification. If the school system did something similar, the teachers association would be front and center on the local news advocating for the teachers that earned their certifications. It's one thing to require additional training, I am completely on board with that, but it's another to threaten to take away an earned certification for not completing an additional certification program.
