Great question in our room (604): how do APM and SDLC align with SAM?  It seems they are not.  I suppose the alignment is not built into the tool but would need some configuration to make it happen.  It also seems that only mature organizations would tackle such an alignment.

when you mention the old software asset management are you referring to an older version of the sam module or are you referring to the free sam that comes with asset?

Old Software Asset Management is the software components associated with the ServiceNow Asset Management application (also referred to as SAM Plugin or ITSM SAM) as opposed to this course which covers the Software Asset Management application (also referred to as Software Asset Management Professional). SAM Professional was originally released in Jakarta.

Hi there,

SAM helps you to understand what you have and how you stack up with license entitilement purchased VS what is actually in use.

These results can then feed into the APM solution to help you with your calculations and costings to drive and inform the decisions to decide which software you may want to target for investment, retirement or replacing.

SDLC could be used to plan the changes that are required to the applications that are in use.  This could also be done in a backlog and using Agile development to move forwards.

If we are currently supporting clients who are using the older version of SAM, what expectations should we start setting with them now in terms of when they might need to go through the migration from their existing SAM process into the new "pro" version?

I'm not really sure how to answer that question other than to tell you about the migration process.  Looking at this process might give you an idea of how long it might take to do the migration.
