Thank you for the responses, they are helpful to understand the uses of each.  In case someone else finds this, I also found in docs the order the server site components are applied.

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/madrid-application-development/page/script/general-scripting/reference/r_ExecutionOrderScriptsAndEngines.html

For our use, I think we will be using both and will have to match them.  We have a large volume of entries being entered by IT staff so they will require the visual feedback from the Lookup rules that are client side.  But as we push customers to more portal use, we will need the server side rules to directly route requests based on other field selections.

Thank you very much.

As this was mentioned earlier in class, there are a few commands to navigate to a table directly from the filter navigator:

Navigate Directly to a table

You can use commands in the navigation filter to navigate directly to the list, form, or configuration view of a table.
Commands work only for tables you are permitted to access.
Note: The table name must match the name in the dictionary entry for the table.

Procedure

  1. In the navigation filter of the application navigator, enter one of the following commands.
    Command Behavior
<table name>.list Opens the list view of the table in the same window or tab.
<table name>.LIST Opens the list view of the table in a new window or tab.
<table name>.form or <table name>.do Opens the form view of the table in the same window or tab.
<table name>.FORM Opens the form view of the table in a new window or tab.
<table name>.config Opens the configuration view [personalize_all.do] of the table in the same window or tab.
<table name>.CONFIG Opens the configuration view [personalize_all.do] of the table in a new window or tab

For example, enter change_request.form to open a new change request.

  2. In UI16, press the Enter key.

I stumbled across this CMDB schema map a while back and thought it would be useful.
I'm not sure how old it is but it should be close to what is baseline in Madrid.  For definitive answers, always refer to the tables & columns schema map within the SN platform.
At the very least, it does help paint a picture .

Commented on 4404 Room.

If you are interested in validation of CMDB Data, there is a plugin called Data Certification, and more info can be read here:

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to have admin view only so we can see everything in a Dev environment as we learn it but without the ability to accidentally do any damage - is there a way to achieve this please......? We have a customised environment so a dev OOTB isn't going to help us compare what we have so need to see and compare wit our installed instance... hope that makes sense....?

Hi Rach,

Yes, there is a way, there is an OOB role called snc_read_only which can do this, however it will render your user completely read only and you wont be able to update or create any record.

More info:

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/madrid-platform-administration/page/administer/user-administratio...

EDIT: You need to have both the "admin" and "snc_read_only" roles together to accomplish what you asked for.

CAPSTONE PROJECT FILES

The two files you need to complete the Capstone project are attached to this comment:

  1. Capstone files.zip - contains the .xml file, graphics files, and task solution files for the Capstone project.
  2. K19-SN-SNF-M010 Pages 316-326.pdf has updated instructions which should replaced pages 316-326 in your printed book.

Enjoy!

Thats great - my admin told me there is no such thing so we couldn't have safe access and I have just sent that and will have us all set up on Dev now (there are a few of us training up here) so this is amazing.... Thanks for that....

My pleasure, I've used it in the past, just be aware that when using this role you won't be able to add/remove favorites, personalize list layouts or sort orders and have ServiceNow recall your preferences, because these actions require the ability to update or create records in some tables like the user preference table.

New Learning Portal Trainings

The Learning Portal offerings are growing. Three of the new trainings build on concepts taught in ServiceNow Fundamentals.

Hi all.

Michelle Nifong here from Jacksonville, Florida. As unusual as my name is there is another natural born with the same name (not married into the name) and queue the mystery music - she also lives in Florida, in the same industry, and we're about the same age. I guess it's the not-so-randomness of this random world!

Anyhow, thanks for the great class - I met some awesome people and learned a lot of great material.

Cheers!

Is there an onsite facility (here in Knowledge 19) to take up the certification exam and return back as a certified system admin ? 🙂

David Ramirez

Hi KK,

I would strongly recommend that you complete the Capstone project and consider practicing and getting familiar with both definitions and use of features covered in this class before attempting the exam for the Certified System Administrator (CSA) certification.

The Capstone is a bit difficult on the Workflow Activity (page 321).  We didn't cover this in today's session.  Is there a way I can get help on this?

Hello, my role is IT System Administrator in RTI International. I have been using ServiceNow since 3 years ago as a fullfiler. My day to day job is working on any servers related request/incident. Last year we start using Discovery module and we have implemented that for all of our Windows & Linux servers infrastructure. In addition to CMDB data populated by the Discovery, I created a workflow for populating a custom metadata into the CMDB. The purpose for me to attend this training is to be able to administer our ServiceNow instance, managing Discovery/CMDB, and workflow automation. Also looking forward to get certified.

A little bit late to the game, but ...

My name is Kevin Young.

I work as a Business Systems Analyst for Scott County, MN (county government) in Shakopee - just south of Minneapolis.  I've been working on the platform for over three years now, primarily in the ITSM modules.  I'm attending this class to obtain my Admin certification, and support upcoming projects for Asset Management and PPM.

My most recent adventure was a trip to LA last summer, while my daughter made a college visit to U$C. :-}
