The ServiceNow Upgrade Essentials path will help you build the important skills for delivering instance changes effectively including previewing upgrades, reviewing skipped records, the Automated Test Framework (ATF), and Debug Upgrade. First, learn to identify the Upgrade Center modules and capabilities. Then learn the process to generate and process skipped records. Next, review how to use the Debug Upgrade feature to quickly diagnose regression test failures after your upgrades. Finally, learn how to create ATF Tests and Test Suites, schedule and run ATF Test Suites, and administer the ATF testing environment. The Automated Test Framework (ATF) Micro-certification is also included in the path. Read on to learn more about each individual course in this series.
The first course in the series, Upgrade Center Overview, provides an overview of the ServiceNow Upgrade Center introduced in the Paris release. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to identify how the ServiceNow Upgrade Center gives you the power to determine the impact of an upgrade before it is performed, review a completed upgrade to analyze its results effectively, and manage its skipped records using a Visual Task Board (VTB).
The next course in this series, Upgrade Skipped Records, teaches how you as a ServiceNow system administrator, can ensure instance upgrades incorporate new release features accurately and carry forward important customizations unharmed. That means going through the stack of upgrade skipped records to determine their resolution. Skipped records are all the places you made customizations and the new ServiceNow release also made changes to the same records. For these record differences, you will need to identify the appropriate path forward to resolve the conflict.
If you are a system administrator looking for ways to speed up your ServiceNow instance upgrades, you do not want to miss this short video, Using Debug Upgrade! It shows how to leverage the power of the Now Platform® Debug Upgrade feature to quickly diagnose regression test failures after your upgrades. Identifying the cause of unexpected regression testing results rapidly and efficiently requires a laser focus on what changed. That is where Debug Upgrade can help get your upgrade back on track fast. It pinpoints the relevant business logic for a specific transaction that might have caused a variance with your expected functionality. You will know right away for the test case transaction what important business logic was either customized by you or modified by the new ServiceNow release. That saves you a lot of time hunting around for what might have changed unexpectedly.
Whether you are looking for a quick introduction to Automated Test Framework (ATF), or ready to begin a deeper dive, the ATF Fundamentals course is designed to target your exact needs. ATF dramatically reduces the amount of manual testing required to verify and deliver ServiceNow instance changes quickly and effectively. Leveraging the benefits of ATF allows you to drive stronger value, lower costs, and manage the risk of your ServiceNow investment. If you are interested in earning your Automated Test Framework Micro-certification, your next step is to enroll in the Micro-Certification Path to complete the assessment and earn your micro-certification!
