Service_viewer role is preventing people without a role from selecting a business service catalog entry from a reference variable on a record producer. This just started after upgrading to New York in DEV instance. Any thoughts on how to get around this? It's quite frustrating..

There is an OOB ACL on base cmdb_ci table. May be a new addition in NewYork
Edit the role in this ACL and see if that helps

I'm quite certain it's the read ACL that was added to Business Service Catalog Entry with the service_viewer role. The problem is that ServiceNow doesn't recommend changing OOB ACL's.

It's nothing like you can modify OOB ACL's.
Many Clients make modifications to the ACL's and moreover here all you are doing is adding an additional role to OOB one.
Shouldn't be a problem

Any news on this, I have the same issue, this is proventing ESS users selecting a company.
I have tried the link provided by Prateek but I am unable to edit the ACL.
