I would do your family release upgrade and then look at store apps. The family release will automatically update some of your store apps, and then after the family release, you'll have updates to store apps you didn't have available before the family release. Store apps all have a minimum version that supports them so being as current as possible in your family release version gives you access to the most current version of your store apps as well.
