I'm interested in a more complete understanding of ServiceNow as it is applied in the Education ecosystem. Please share some of the unique ways SN is customized for education. What are some of the most useful things that you were able to accomplish with SN? Which integrations are essential? Which solutions are unique to the edu industry and which are common with others? What are some of the challenges? Where do you think its headed in the future?

I'd love to see the development of an Educational Management module in-platform! Meanwhile, we have developed a custom portal with a specific service catalog dedicated to processes and workflows used by our Graduate Studies department. The custom app maintains a student data record which associates the post-graduate courses, programs, papers/thesis, committees, supervisors, etc., with a student user -- displaying pertinent information to users of the forms, which help organize thesis defenses, committees and degree awards using workflows and other automation artefacts (BRs, etc). The primary driver of the app is a one to one ratio of RITM to SCTASK, where a series of approvals which control the completion of a RITM after an SCTASK is closed by the Grad Studies Program office administrators, who front-load the automation by controlling the qualifications-for and coordinate the various completed forms/workflows that Grad Students and Faculty need, to complete their associated program(s). There is a small amount of integration with our standard Ed Mngt platform (Oracle Banner) via data export on a MID server (consumed via camel scripts) and import data via JDBC. We've been using it for less than a year and it's very straight-forward. However, know that admission to the program and enrollment in the actual classes is still handled separately (external to ServiceNow) -- but it's a start!
