COVID-19 has changed a lot of things – where we go, what we buy, the ways we connect with others, and, of course, how we learn.

This rapid digital transformation is something we see across all industries. ServiceNow’s CEO, Bill McDermott, said that based on his interactions with others in response to COVID-19, “We’re done talking about ‘Is it a good idea to digitally transform?’ Now, the conversation has shifted to ‘How quickly can you get me there? I have to get there really fast.’”

All this points to digital transformation and IT modernization no longer being optional, and education institutions aren’t immune to this shift.

Immediate and long term impact

  • Online learning needs are accelerating. Educational institutions must be able to scale quickly and provide a rich learning experience.
  • Continuity of the learning experience for students, and the teaching experience for instructors, will be critical as institutions evolve their approach.
  • Many students and teachers face additional stresses learning/working from home, which will impact their mental health and wellness.
  • Pressure continues to escalate around recruiting future students, as they face projected declines in enrollment and increased demand for financial aid.
